FAQ

Why do we use plastic for food packaging solutions?

Plastic remains one of the best solutions for food packaging as compared to other materials. It is more durable, lower in carbon emission and most importantly, a solution to enhance shelf-life, which helps food stay fresh longer and prevents large amounts of food waste. One of the most cost-efficient materials & processes available to help keep your product competitive.

What types of plastic is generally used in food packaging?

Easily recyclable plastics that are used in food packaging include:

  • Polyethene terephthalate (PET)
  • High-density / Low-Density polyethene (HDPE / LDPE )
  • Polypropylene (PP)
What materials are used in Combi Pack’s plastic food packaging?

Combi cares and wants to do its part in keeping the world safe and sustainable. Therefore, we strive to be an environmentally responsible manufacturer by using 100% recyclable materials. Our plastic food packaging is designed to be easily recycled and allows recyclers to recycle from minor to no segregation needed. Our products are generally made from Polypropylene (PP) and Polyethlyne (PE), which are easy to recycle. Learn more about our sustainable business practices.

What are the benefits of plastic food packaging?

The lightweight material enables factories to transport larger quantities of products with less fuel and energy. Furthermore, plastic food packaging helps prevent food wastage which has a significantly higher environmental impact than packaging waste. 50% of the food produced is wasted before it reaches the consumer, making plastic food packaging essential in ensuring food quality during storage and transport.

With modern technology, we can “repurpose” used plastic into providing new life through Chemical / Mechanical recycling which helps reduce the need to use Virgin Resins; in other words, this is known as Circular Economy.

How do I recycle my plastic food packaging correctly?

You need to rinse out any food or liquids from the plastic food packaging before throwing it away into a recycling bin.

To give a helping hand to the recycler, remove any labels off the packaging ( Stickers & Etc ). Stickers and other decorative forms are normally made of a different material from the packaging, which will cause contamination in the recycler’s pipeline. Combi, however, proposes IML, which is 100% recyclable without the need to remove any labels.

For plastic bottles, you can check to see if the labels say “crush to conserve”. If so, remove the lid and twist the bottle from the top and press it down to crush it. Once crushed, place the lid back onto the bottle and throw it into a recycle bin.
